Hormoze Goudarzi, MD

Dr. Hormoze Goudarzi obtained his diploma in natural Sciences in 1962.  He then completed advanced levels in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology at Acton Technical College in London where he completed his pre-medical college degree.  He entered Guy’s Hospital Medical School at the University of London, England in 1967, where he obtained his medical degree in 1972.  After completion of his internship in Internal Medicine and Cardio-Thoracic surgery, he entered the surgical residency program at Guy’s Hospital Medical School.  He has extensive exposure to general, vascular, thoracic, colo-rectal, endocrine, gastroenterologic, oncologic, endoscopy, colonoscopy, and vein surgery.

 

Dr. Hormoze Goudarzi was awarded the Fellowship of Royal College of Surgeons of England in 1977.  Following this, he has had extensive experience in surgical-anatomic teaching at Guy’s Hospital Medical School.  His post graduate experience includes pediatric surgery at the Hospital for Sick Children (Great Ormon St.), breast and oncologic surgery at Sir Hedley Atkin’s Unit (Guy’s Hospital’s Imperial Cancer Research), cardio-thoracic surgery (Guy’s Hospital Medical School), urologic surgery (Guy’s Hospital Medical School), general and colo-rectal surgery (Greenwich District Hospital), gastroenterologic and esophageal surgery (Guy’s Hospital Medical School), as well as vascular and thoracic surgery (Guy’s Hospital Medical School).

 

In 1981, he moved to the United States where he was chief resident in surgery at New Hanover Regional Medical Center – Area Health Education Center.  He became an instructor in surgery from 1982 to 1984.  He became a diplomat of the American Board of Surgery in 1985, the Fellow of American College of Surgeons in 1987, was recertified in the American Board of Surgery in 1995, and again in 2004.  He was involved in surgical education as the ‘Clinical Associate Professor’ at the University of North Carolina and has been awarded by the New Hanover Regional Medical Center – Area Health Education Center as ‘Professor of the Year’ in 1986, 1988, and 1989.  He is one of the pioneers in laparoscopic surgery and has been one of the early publishers of the laparoscopic repair of incisional hernia, as well as laparoscopic assisted colorectal surgery.

 

Dr. Hormoze Goudarzi has had extensive experience in the laser treatment of varicose veins and has been involved with micro-invasive treatment of vascular disease.

 

His present practice involves general, thoracic, endocrine, and oncologic surgery, as well as laparoscopy and micro-invasive treatment of arterial and venous systems, laparoscopic repair of hiatal hernia, and all other abdominal, incisional, and inguinal hernias.  He has performed over 1200 Carotid Endarterectomies and 38,000 colonoscopy-endoscopy procedures, 3000 colon-stomach, bowel resections.

 

He is a senior attending surgeon at New Hanover Regional Medical Center as well as Atlantic Surgicenter.
